Gabby Minton and Rich Eerie-10.31.22

Gabby Minton is an indie-folk singer from the Dallas/Fort Worth area who has just released her debut album today called “IT'S OK”. It has such beautiful vocals and instrumentals I can't recommend it enough. To help with the production of the album, she met Rich Eerie to help with the quality and even some of the Drumming towards the end of the album.

Standout Tracks

IT'S OK deals a lot with Motherhood and Relationships that were never ment to be. The first two songs off the album were the first two songs Minton ever wrote back when she was around 18. The opening track here makes such a strong statement and a great start to the album, Minton goes on to describe how "A World Without is about an old flame. I decided the spark wasnt there and I thought we could be great firends but that feeling was not reciprocated." I would also Like to shoutout the track 'Trash Day'. Which uses cleaver double entendres and has some of my favorite lyricism off the album.

Working in The Studio Together

Working on the album together went smooth for the duo."I kept it straightforward with Gabby. I really wanted to capture her as raw as I could" Eerie explains. They only needed a few takes on each song, which kept the process short and sweet. "She's a one-taker at her core and I like thoes kind of cats". Another addition to the recording process was the fact that their recording studio was on a farm. "If we ever feel stuck, we would walk right out of the studio to get some fresh air on the farm". Which happens to be full of animals such as squirrels and even a Peacock.

How They Met

Minton and Eerie met while they attened house concerts. While being the host and the sound engineer of every event, Eerie describes it as chaos. They would be "running between the bedroom and the living room, making sure levels were good". Eeerie would even have to record the shows on special occasions which would give them another thing to worry about. For one of these house concerts They met Minton "she was one of the many faces I met in that era". After that they would work together on IT'S OK.

In Studio Stories

While their time on the farm, plenty of stuff went down. Minton wanted to get promo pictures with the peacock that lives on the farm. However when caring for peacocks they dont want to be startled. So in order for her to get the promo photos she had to "gently chase the peacock" by walking backward towards it as seen in the video here.

There were also other instances of animals interupting recording sessions. The Peacock enjoyed walking in the recording studio

Another time in the studio, Minton won a video package and brought the videographer into the studio, which really confused Eerie because they "never had a camera follow [them] around before". It was described as a "cool but akward experience" for everyone there that day. While they got a cool promo video out of it Eerie says that they "look like a dork" throughout it.

Motherhood and Music

The second track of the album called 'Sam' is about Minton's first son that she had right out of high school. Since she was unable to take care of him, Minton and the father decided to do an open adoption. The melody of the song comes from a lullaby she would sleep to sam during the week before he moved to Maine with his new family. Being able to balace motherhood with a music carreer is challenging but Minton makes it all worth it. Her kids (Hendrix and King) are a driving force behind her modivation to write and create. "My kids are the very first people to listen to my songs, and probably give me the most honest feedback too". An experience like this makes her work harder and helps her family be apart of the whole experience.

Gabby Minton's IT'S OK is now out on Spotify, Apple Music, and Soundcloud. Its is defiently worth a listen. Be sure to also follow Gabby (@gabbymintonmusic) and Rich (@yowangtangmang) on instagram.
